Well done! You've found timpani

This instrument belongs to the percussion family.
The head of the timpani is stretched over a large bowl, and the amount of stretch changes the tone . The bowl is usually made of copper and the head from animal skin or plastic.

They are played by striking the head with a specialised sticks called a timpani stick or a timpani mallet.
